Bureau of Motor Vehicles to temporarily close from August 17 to 28, 2020

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS— Director Barbara Jackson-McIntosh would like to inform the motoring public that the Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be temporarily closed to the public from August 17 to 28, 2020.

As Governor Bryan has instituted the Stay at Home phase to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles has implemented the following protocols:

• Director McIntosh is encouraging the motoring public to take advantage of the bureau’s online vehicle registration process. During this period, the bureau will waive the requirement for inspection for any customer that renew their vehicle registration online. If customers need assistance in setting up an account or for technical assistance, please email the bureau at info@bmv.vi.gov.
• Customers who dropped off documents prior to the closure, the BMV’s Customer Service Representatives will contact each customer to arrange payment, the BMV will then mail the document to the customer.
• All road tests and written test for the learner’s permit are cancelled until further notice.
• All driver’s licenses and identification card services are cancelled during this time, the BMV will reschedule each appointment once the BMV reopens.
• All driver’s licenses and identification cards that expires as of May 1, 2020, will be extended for a period of 6 months from the expiration date.

Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ Online Services Currently Under Maintenance

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS— Director Barbara Jackson-McIntosh would like to inform the motoring public that the Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ (BMV) Online Services is currently under maintenance. We anticipate the E-Servicing website to be operational on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ St. Croix Office Experiencing Phone Line Disruptions

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS— Director Barbara Jackson-McIntosh is advising customers that the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) in the St. Croix office is currently experiencing phone lines disruptions. VIYA has been contacted and is currently working to troubleshoot the issue.

Director Jackson-McIntosh is encouraging customers who submitted their documents via the drop box system on or before June 26, 2020, to visit the bureau to complete the payment process and retrieve their documents. Due to the disruptions, the BMV’s Customer Service Representatives are unable to notify customers when their documents are completed.

Director McIntosh thanks the community for their understanding during this public health emergency, the BMV will continue to employ innovative ways to ensure that the public is expeditiously served. Bureau of Motor Vehicles to Resume All Services with Restrictions

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS— In accordance with Governor Albert Bryan Jr. phased reopening of the territory, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be implementing phased reopening protocols from Monday, May 18, 2020. Director McIntosh and the staff of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles are implementing the following procedures to safeguard the community and the employees:

• The BMV will resume all services beginning Monday, May 18, 2020 with restrictions. Customers who wish to renew vehicle registrations, obtain moving permits, permits to ship vehicles off-island, title transfers of new and used vehicles and duplicate documents, must drop off the required documents to a designated drop box at any bureau office, in a sealed envelope. Customers are required to provide pertinent contact information, such as phone number and email address. The bureau will then schedule an appointment for each customer to pick up their documents and pay for the service. Applications and a list of the required documents are available on our website at bmv.vi.gov.
• Director McIntosh is still encouraging the community to take advantage of the bureau’s online vehicle registration process. During the period from March 18, 2020 to May 31, 2020, the bureau will waive the requirement for inspection for any customer who renews their vehicle registration online. If customers need assistance in setting up an account or for technical assistance, please email the bureau at info@bmv.vi.gov.
• For driver’s license and disabled placards related services, customers are required to make an appointment. To make an appointment, please call (340) 713-4268 on St. Croix, (340) 774-4268 on St. Thomas, and (340) 776-6262 on St. John.
• All road tests and written test for the learner’s permit are cancelled until further notice.
