Bureau of Motor Vehicles Announces Temporary Closure of St. Thomas Office Due to Environmental Health Precaution

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 10, 2026

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) announces the temporary closure of its St. Thomas office located at Tutu Park Mall as a precautionary measure while environmental conditions affecting air quality and workplace safety are being evaluated.

The decision to temporarily suspend operations was made out of an abundance of caution to protect the health and well-being of BMV employees and customers. The Bureau is currently awaiting the results of environmental assessments to determine when conditions are appropriate for the safe resumption of services.

“Protecting the health and safety of our customers and staff remains our highest priority,” said Barbara McIntosh, Director of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles. “We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we work to ensure a healthy and safe environment before reopening our doors.”

During the closure, customers are encouraged to utilize available online services through the BMV website whenever possible. The Bureau will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates regarding the office’s status and the resumption of normal operations as additional information becomes available.

The BMV apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and appreciates the public’s cooperation and patience during this period.
